Other Stuff

Intro

On this page you can find a sampling of the various kinds of graphics I'm capable of creating. From; tiny icons to poster size graphics; animated avatars and logos, to screensavers; business cards to 3d sky boxes... the possiblities are endless. You'll also find a sampling of my computer generated music. After years of musical frustration, the computer was finally an instrument I can play.

Imagination is the only limitation on what I can do... so, what can I imagine for you today?

Avatars and Logos

Logos, avatars and the like, can be fun to play with. Those of us who grew up drawing stick figures on multiple pages to make crude animations should love this kind of stuff... the basic principal is the same, a series of images spliced together to create the illusion of moving figures.
Logos are an excellent method of branding, and can be used in many places; online, as well as in print. A well designed logo should catch the eye, as well as the imagination. The same holds true for avatars, they represent us online and say a lot about one's personality, a catchy well designed avatar will catch a viewer's eye, and give them an idea of the personality one wishes to convey. Here are some samples of past and present logos and avatars, both animated and non-animated. I'm adding some QTVR's (Quick Time Virtual Realities) to the site, some of my wallpapers come from 3D skyboxes, QTVR's allow me to showcase the complete sky. I've just got one up for now, one of my Christmas themes, but I'll be adding more as I go. I also plan on converting them to an animated wallpaper format.
Click on images to open full size versions, feel free to download them for personal use. As usual, I'll be adding more as I go.
I should also mention that the base images for two of my animations came from other sources; demavatar.gif has the original artist's credit, I just added the lazer animation; the monkeyavat_160x120[th].png, came from a royalty-free site and was just a smallish picture of an ape at a desk, again I gave it animation.
Please be patient as the page loads, there are a lot of items... I am constantly working at decreasing load times

Icons

Almost any graphic can be made into an icon, one of my favorite programs Image Badger, for $20 US, can do it for you with a simple right-click. We can do that for you too, we can also create them from scratch. Custom icons can add that finishing touch to web pages, desktops, files, folders and a whole lot more. Please contact me for pricing and package deals.

This page contains some of the many icons I've made over the years, all can be downloaded, just right click and choose "Save As", once downloaded use a program such as sagethumbs, Imagebadger or other image editors to convert them back to .ico (icon) files. They are currently in .png (ping) format for ease of viewing online; OR you can download a zip file containing my wallpaper icons.
Check back often for new icons.

Screensavers

Another way of maintaining a presence are screensavers, by putting your brand on desktops a whole new market is opened up. A good screensaver can be worth it's weight in free advertising and combined with a complete graphics package; quality icons, wallpapers, cursors, etc; whole computers become free billboards. This page contains a few samples for download. Just place them in your C:\\Windows\System32 folder if they're a .scr, if it's an .exe, just double-click to install. When installed, open Display Properties to set as your screensaver.

Websites

I currently have 3 websites (besides this one) that I've designed and maintain, some are from templates, so technically I didn't design them... customize might be the better term. This is the 5th one I've designed for myself over the years, the others have faded into the mists of dead hosts, and personal reinventions. It's one of the first sites that I've consciously tried to make compatible in both IE and Mozilla.
The first site I took over was my brother's fly fishing equipment site; Fishflies, this is the 4th incarnation of Fish Flies, and I try to change the look each year. I plan on making it more Mozilla-friendly after I finish this site.
The next site I took on is The Tradesmen, for a good friend of mine (who also reno'ed my bathroom amongst other jobs), he wanted to have a web presence for showcasing his work.
The 3rd site is a little more personal, the trailer park in which I live is up for sale, and all 250+ families could be forced off the land, with very little compensation. As part of the initiative to save our homes, it was felt that a web site, Bellwood Park Future, could help promote our cause, as well as keeping the residents and other interested parties up to date on our state of affairs. When the original webmaster stepped down because of time constraints, I was asked to take over and have been running the site for over a year now.
If you're looking to establish a web presence for commercial, educational, or personal purposes, please feel free to
... no job is too big or too small!

Misc

Ye olde Miscellaneous page, the page where I stick everything else, but the kitchen sink.
You'll find a link to my "404 Error" page here, but you can also see it by adding a letter or number to the address at the top of this page and hitting enter.

The Music files were created with various Ejay programs under the pseudonym X one. Some were created as atmosphere for my 3dna worlds, the rest were created for fun. The mp3 player plays 30 sec. previews, links to download the songs individually or altogether in a .zip file are below the player. I've hosted the music files on Mediafire, for convenience sake.

Tools of the Trade
There are more graphics and web-building programs out there then you can shake a stick at. From the big name "do it all" progs, to the lesser known specialty progs as well as a very large and growing selection of online programs... it's all out there. This is the listing of the programs and sites I use, or have used in the past on a fairly regular basis. Newer entries are at the top of the list

Nexus Font A useful font organization tool. IF you have hundreds of fonts,
this freeware gem will help tidy things up.
Font Matcher A freeware tool for identifing and matching fonts from .bmp images.
SmillaEnlarger An excellent free tool for enlarging images... gives fantastic results.
Quickly becoming my favorite enlarger.
Photoshop The Granddaddy of graphics and a bit pricey, they're up to version CS4.
A program with a steep learning curve, but so versatile.
I'm using a pre-CS version, but it does everything
I want and need.
Gimpshop A friendlier interface for Gimp, "Gnu Image Manipulation Program"
an open source program, that gives Photoshop a run for it's money.
When I get "tired" of Photoshop, I fire up the Gimp.
Paint.net A freeware prog that does so much more than MS's built in Paint.
It's constantly being added to, and may someday be as versitle as
Photoshop and the Gimp. A great prog for quick jobs.
Image Badger One of my favorites, an image conversion program, that installs
to your right-click menu and handles most of the popular
formats. Great for quick conversions of single and batch images.
VSO Image Resizer Another favorite that installs to your right-click menu.
This is a share-ware prog that has a "nag screen" pop-up
when you use it, but it's worth it. Quick and easy single and
batch resizing.
Firstpage 2000 A very easy to use freeware webpage maker, unfortunately
the link only leads to Firstpage 2006, I find 2000 to be a
slightly better product.
Jpeg Lossless Rotator Another prog that installs to your right-click, giving
you the ability to rotate .jpegs and .bmps 90 degrees
left or right without degradation. Good for single
or batch jobs.
Mojoworld 3 My main program, a true world builder. Even though
it hasn't been upgraded in a few years, there are very
few programs that come close to doing what it does.
With very few exceptions, my wallpapers, and 3DNA
worlds were created with Mojoworld.
Poser A figure modelling program, specializing in. but not
limited to, the human figure. I'm using an older version,
but it still does the job.
Microsoft Photostory I know it's a Microsoft product, but it's still
quite good at making slide shows, simple movies
and screensavers. It even supplies the music and
it's free.
PcRock A small specialized free program I found for generating
rocks for my worlds, a fine example of a program
that does one thing, and does it well.
Scroll to the bottom of their page to
find the download.
A1 Javascripts.com A great source for Javascripts and DHTML.
DynamicDrive More Javascripts and DHTML.
Pyzam As they put it; "The ultimate content site!"
gadget, widgets, games and more.
Open web design.org A wide selection of free web templates.
Eric Puidokas Client-side Web Development, I'm using his Gallery script,
and he was extremely helpful in solving a little problem I had
with it's implementation.
Mediafire Online file hosting and storage, free with very few
limitations. I've used them for years with no problems.
Give Away of the Day A great site where they give away a different commercial
software title free every day.
AllWebMenus PRO An easy to use commercial menu builder, that I received
free at Give Away of the Day.
Picassa A free and easy to use visual media manager and editor. Helpful
for cataloging and retouching images and some video.
More to Come I'll be adding to this list as time goes by.
